Leading up to Mother’s Day I happened to glimpse a sign displayed in a Mother’s Day giftware stall. I could only see part of the sign as I walked past: “Go Confidently in the Direction of your Dreams…” the words resounded in my brain like a softly lingering Tibetian bell. I put them aside, determined to focus on the real purpose of my visit to the shop – bread, milk, toilet rolls, etc. The real stuff of life.

Days after, I kept thinking about that sign – just felt like it was significant for me. So 7:30am on Saturday morning, before most of the shops were even open, I made a quick stop to see if it was still there. There it was and more surprisingly the stall had just opened. I bought it wondering where I would put it. It’s not a small sign, not something that could fit in with any particular décor or belong in any particular room. I decided that my office was the best place for it.

Sunday was Mother’s Day and amongst the wonderful gifts I received was a book from Stephen. As I started to read the book, on page 38, I happened to notice some familiar wording. There it was, the exact same wording that was on the sign and a bit more:

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve always imagined.
As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”
Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

How much more of a “Sign” could you ask for? Sometimes the soft voice of something greater than ourselves is whispering and if we are open to the “signs” we receive the message. I don’t know what it means yet, but I love the sign.
